The Genealogy Club of Montgomery County, Indiana meets the second Tuesday of every month at CDPL at 7pm. From the February 2024 meeting of Montgomery County Indiana’s Genealogy Club. Speaker Leah Denbo, Montgomery County Clerk, shared information about the Records available at the courthouse.

From the January 2024 meeting of Montgomery County Indiana’s Genealogy Club. Shannon Sullivan Hudson and Vicke Hudson Swisher share information about the Lincoln School for Colored Children, which operated in Crawfordsville Indiana from 1881 to 1947. This is the first in a series of planned talks on the Lincoln School. Presentation slides are available to view.

Susan Fisher spoke to the Montgomery County Genealogy Society in August of 2022 on how to join a Lineage Society. She is past regent of our local Dorothy Q Chapter NSDAR. Additional information available here.

Our Genealogy Club of Montgomery County, IN Corp, just had its 20th anniversary on the 8th of March 2022. This is the first meeting we have been able to have cake, punch, and ice cream. Fun was had by all. Due to covid didn’t have entertainment or speakers.

Interesting pieces of history can be found in a variety of places, and some places you might not think of! These pieces of history include letters, postcards, Valentines, scrapbooks, Bibles, and other types of ephemera. What is ephemera? Fragile forms of communication sometimes don’t survive unless they are loved and prized. Yet over time, these archival goodies gain new owners or are discarded. See some examples and learn how to find your own Archival Goodies in Odd Places and join the hunt!
