Graphic Novels to Note: Saga by Brian K. Vaughn

blog Book recommendations

It’s Banned Books Week and we’re talking all things censorship! Our final graphic novel highlight of the month features a staff favorite: the Saga series by Brian K. Vaughn, with amazing accompanying artwork by Fiona Staples! Fans of emotional and loving family sagas and misfits making their own families should absolutely add this to their TBR, as should anyone who loves a great sci-fi space opera. Readers beware, however, that the series is currently on pause at its halfway point (but the creators have states they fully intend to finish after taking a break!).

SAGA is the story of Hazel, a child born to star-crossed parents from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war. When the two soldiers from opposite sides fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Now, Hazel’s fugitive family must risk everything to find a peaceful future in a harsh universe that values destruction over creation.

Saga held the #6 spot on ALA’s top ten challenged books list in 2014, and has been challenged multiple times in public and school libraries.
