International Games Month LogoIn the second half of International Games Month with the American Library Association, we are highlighting video games! All the books listed below and more are on display starting November 15th.

Read “Game On!: Video Game History from Pong and Pac-Man to Mario, Minecraft, and More” by Dustin Hansen (794.8 Han) or “A Brief History of Video Games” by Richard Stanton (794.8 Sta). Admire the experts of Meagan Marie’s “Women in Gaming: 100 Professionals of Play” (338.4779 Mar) and aspire to beat those in “Guinness world records. 2018, Gamer’s edition” (794.8 Gui 2018). Level up with the tips and tricks inMinecraft: The Complete Handbook Collection” (793.932 Min) and “Ninja: Get Good: My Ultimate Guide to Gaming” by Tyler Blevins (794.8 Ble).

Do you want to make your own video games? Try Jason Schreier’s “Blood, Sweat, and Pixels: The Triumphant, Turbulent Stories Behind How Video Games Are Made” (794.8 Sch) and “Significant Zero: Heroes, Villains, and the Fight for Art and Soul in Video Games” by Walt Williams (794.8 Wil). Start with “Coding for Dummies” by Nikhil Abraham (005.1 Abr) before you jump into “CryENGINE 3 Game Development: Beginner’s Guide” by Sean Tracy (006 Tra). Steve Harpster’s “How to Draw Video Games: Create Unique Characters, Worlds, Levels and More!” (741.2 Har) can help you turn your ideas into awesome designs!

The novel “In Beta” by Prescott Harvey (FIC Har) follows two high school friends who create their own video game, which begins to bend the laws of reality. The friends in Gabrielle Zevin’s “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” (FIC Zev) don’t have such troubles. Their game is a success, but their relationships are complicated.

You’ve heard of “Tron” (DVD FIC Tro) and “Wreck-it Ralph” (DVD FIC Wre) but fans of video game movies should also watch “The Last Starfighter” (DVD FIC Las). In this 1984 film, a normal teenager must save the universe using the skills he learned playing arcade games. Among the aliens and robot clones is none other than the Music Man, Robert Preston!
