Nurturing Through Nature: One

What Is One State/One Story?

One State/One Story is an annual program offered by Indiana Humanities that invites Hoosiers to engage deeply with the same book as part of an ongoing, statewide conversation. IH has chosen Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments as this year’s selection.

You can check out the ebook on Libby and on Hoopla.

What does this have to do with CDPL & CMMC?

Crawfordsville District Public Library and the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County recently secured a small grant from IH to develop a series of programs related to World of Wonders. The theme of our program this year is Nurturing Through Nature: One People, One Planet. We want to encourage our community to engage in and with the nature around them in a mindful, thoughtful way, to contemplate how their environment supports and benefits them on a daily basis, and how their actions in turn impact their environment.

What do you have planned so far?

Great question! We have a ton of great activities planned. See our schedule below and stay tuned for smaller activities like take-home science experiments, crafts, journal prompts, and more!

Sugar Creek Water Panel Discussion

Join us at the CMMC for a community conversation with local experts and Sugar Creek enthusiasts about the challenges facing the Creek, and what we as citizens can do about them.

Nature Day with CMMC/CDPL

Enjoy some free ice cream on the lawn of the Museum (provided by CDPL) before heading inside to check out family-friendly crafts and activities!

World of Wonders Book Discussion

Dr. Marc Hudson of Wabash College will be facilitating our community book discussion at the CMMC! Bring your book, your journal, your pen, and an open mind ready to explore!

Nature Hike/Crinoid Gathering

CDPL staff member and nature enthusiast Stephanie Morrissette will lead us on a short hike to gather crinoids along the creek bed at the Sugar Creek Trailhead/Rocky Ridge Landing and will share interesting facts along the way.
