Picture of staff member Karen Record from shoulders upThe Youth Services Department at the Crawfordsville District Public Library would like to invite all children up through the age of 18 to register for the summer reading program “Tails and Tales”. Registration begins Tuesday, May 24, 2021. You may register at the library or online at www.cdplreadsquared.com.

This year children will earn brag tags (plastic shaped pieces) for reading and doing activities. These brag tags will be placed on a bracelet once they are earned. Once children register (at the library) they will be given a chart of animals with tails and characters in fairy tales. Children will check off each animal or fairy tale character on the chart as they read, earning a brag tag for each box. The children will also have four activities to do to earn brag tags. When a child earns 5 brag tags he/she will earn the first prize. Once all the reading and all the activities are completed and 10 brag tags are earned, the elementary children will earn a t-shirt and a book to keep. The preschoolers will earn a book bag and a book to keep.

Every day the children may find Iggy the Iguana in the library and enter a weekly drawing to win a small prize. There will be picture searches up at the library for children to find pictures of animals with tails and fairy tales.
Children can take and make a different fairy tale craft each week. Please also plan to join us for a story time each week. Story times will be on the trail behind the animal shelter every Wednesday at 10:00, weather permitting. Wiggle and Giggle will be every Friday at 10:00 at Pike Place, weather permitting.

We will have activities for elementary students every other Tuesday at 4:00. We will be doing activities with ice, games, soda/vinegar, and an obstacle course. Registration is required for these activities. There will be some family programs planned as well.

The program for teens is different from the younger children. They will keep track of time spent reading. Teens may choose a prize from the treasure chest and then place tickets in a bucket for weekly and grand prize drawings. They will also have the opportunity to do specific activities to earn more tickets for the drawings.

The program ends Tuesday, July 13, 2021. All time for reading must be turned in by 8:00 p.m. that day.

Visit www.cdpl.lib.in.us to see the events calendar. You can also call us at 362-2242 (ext. 2) with any questions or to sign-up for a specific activity. You must register for the reading program in person or online, not by phone.

We want to thank the Friends of the Library for funding a good portion of this program. We can do so much more with their generosity. We hope to see you this summer (if not before)!
