interviewed 27 July 1977
Azel Turnipseed (born 1890), a long-time county resident, talks about the early days of the 20th century when horse-power was still common. He grew up on a farm, served in the Marines in World War I, and then returned to farming. He clearly recalls walking four miles to school as a child ("If you followed a spring-toothed harrow all day behind a walkin' plow, why four miles didn't mean much to you!")
