Bob and Nancy Cook

Robert Arthur Cook was born 31 May 1926 on a farm north of Darlington along Sugar Creek. He lived there till 10 years old when his dad died in a farm accident. He had 1 sister who was disabled due to spinal fluid damage.

In 1936 he went to the World Fair in Chicago and enjoyed the Monster Dinosaur exhibits; in this interview he speaks a lot about Darlington during this time. Bob was a soldier in WWII stationed at Seattle WA learning B-29 maintenance, and before that B-24 maintenance in Utah; he never served overseas. Thanks to the GI bill he went to college.

Bob worked at RR Donnelley for 41 years and for CDPL for 10 years as a maintence man. At RR Donnelley he was in the Accounting Department, Inventory Control, and World Book Encyclopedia printing. When he retired. World Book gave him a set of their encyclopedias with his name on the outside of each.

His wife is Nancy Cook, and at time of interview they had been married 63 years. She was born and raised in Crawfordsville in 1930, graduating CHS in 1948. Bob and Nancy had 5 kids, 10 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. They are members of the 1st Baptist Church.
