The Friends of the Library organization is composed of local citizens with special interests in learning. Through the Crawfordsville District Public Library, they lend support to all types of learning whether it be for children or adults, or whether it be in the form of books, videos, or cultural events.
The regular Library Board provides the main support for the library, but the Friends try to expedite some of the operations both through human effort and through financial assistance. This assistance allows the staff to better serve the patrons.
Some of the things that the Friends have provided over the years include computers for the Children's Room, a CD player, and a refrigerator for use by the staff. The Friends have taken a special interest in the Children's Room and provide extra money from time to time for special events and for supplies and refreshments for children's activities.
One source of funds is through dues collected from the members. The main source, however, is through the sale of books that people have donated. A book sale is held on the second Saturday of every month; these donated books are available for purchase at prices determined by the buyer. Some books are on display in the library and are available for purchase at any time.
Of course, the first thing you could do would be to join. Print and fill out a membership form (.pdf) to return to the library -- forms are also available in the library. If you don't wish to join at this time but would still like to be placed on our mailing list, please indicate this preference in the place provided on the form.
Secondly, bring your surplus books to the library for the book sale and urge your friends to do the same.
Your participation and suggestions would be welcomed.
